It must be the dreaded Black Dog Syndrome — you know, where dark colored dogs are less likely to be adopted because they blend into the background or shed on light-colored clothing….or something. I never really understood that phenomenon but I do know it exists.

Otherwise I can’t imagine why Maxie, a gorgeous Black Lab with a sweet, people-pleasing personality, would not be snapped up instantly. She’s 4 years old, so mellow enough to be willing to just hang out with her person, but also ready to hit the road at the drop of a hat — or a tennis ball.

If you want to learn more about Maxie, click her profile picture. And please share on Facebook and Twitter, especially if you live in the Tri-State area (I feel like such an insider saying that. Now that I live out west, there is no “tri-state area”: It’s “if you live in northwest Arizona or southeastern Wyoming.”)

By the way — when I looked up Killingworth to see if there were any town details I could use to get some local color, I found this on the community site:

As many Killingworth residents know, Rascal is Killingworth’s Town Hall cat. Born in the basement of Town Hall in April of 1996, Rascal has resided here ever since. If you have ever come into the building to attend a meeting, pay your taxes or get a transfer station pass, you have most likely seen her roaming the hallway, entertaining children and adults alike with her “chatter.”

Throughout her life, donations from the town clerk’s office staff and some generous residents have paid her routine medical bills. But now, Rascal needs more serious care. She is currently hospitalized at the Killingworth Animal Hospital in need of costly tests and surgery. If you would like to make a donation to help pay for her care, please stop by the Town Clerk’s office or contact us at 860-663-1765, ext. 502 during our normal hours of 8:00am to 4:00pm. Any help is greatly appreciated!

How sweet is that? Killingworth clearly cares about its pets. So adopt Maxie. And help Rascal get medical help.

  1. Maxie reminds me of a dog we had at our shelter. Great dog. He lives on a horse farm now and is so very loved. I hope Maxie gets hers soon!
