I usually need a few drinks and a bowl or so of nuts — it used to be cigarettes — to feel comfortable mingling with new people at a party. But a virtual party where you can bring your pets… no problem. My dog, Frankie, is so charming that he always serves as a social lubricant, and that’s especially true in virtual situations, where he is not shy as he is in real life.

As you may have guessed, I blog about dogs. It all started when I wrote a book called Am I Boring My Dog: And 99 Other Things Every Dog Wishes You Knew which was inspired by getting Frankie, my first dog, ever.  Everyone told me I needed to blog, tweet, and Facebook (is that a verb?) in order to publicize my book, and could everyone be wrong?

Well, yes, they could, but in this case they weren’t. At least not as far as my virtual social life is concerned. I’ve been meeting lots of terrific people, especially through events like this one. It’s true that not all of them have bought my book, but it’s not too late. And I’m hoping that at least some of them will buy my next book, which is about pet travel. All I have to do is write it.

The subject of pet travel brings me to the hosts of this party, Paris Permenter and John Bigley, whom I met in person when we were all “just” travel writers and not pet book writers and bloggers too. They’re terrific. In fact, they’re the type of people I’m likely to corner at real parties because they always have something interesting to say and because they’re way too nice to tell me that I’ve been drinking too much and hogging all the nuts.

In honor of their new CatTipper site, I’m including a cat-oriented installment of my Pet Adoption Videos That Don’t Make You Want To Kill Yourself series.

  1. Edie, thanks so much! You are definitely the kind of person we always hope WILL corner us at parties. I can’t wait to read your pet travel book! We have one shy dog traveler in the family (Irie) but I haven’t given up hope!

  2. Hello!

Visiting due to the blog hop party, and I’m eager to read more! I think I previously heard of your book and looked for it through the library, where I work, but no dice. I’ll find it elsewhere!

    1. Thanks for stopping by! Tell that library of yours to order a copy of my book, if they don’t have it. That’s what I tell all my friends — even the ones who bought it in on Amazon 😉

  3. Oh fudge – just read directions at Dog Tipper…so now, what, I’m the party outcast? Hee hee hee…sorry, read your little ditty and thought we’d be hopping around to each other’s blogs, wine in hand, but a post was involved so forgive my “stepping in it”!

    1. Oh, I’ll always want to party with you, Mary, no matter what faux paws you make. Tell you what — next time bring an extra bottle of bacon vodka (yes, there really is bacon vodka)!

  4. You’ve posted a couple of good videos demonstrating that dogs and cats often end up in shelters because of the humans’ issues and not the animals’. Is there a “it’s not you, it’s me” video in our future?
