Frankie D., Canine Video Star, Muse, Retires

Frankie Mardi Gras 1

Party on, dudes! I’ll be with you in spirit

Frankie D. — short for Frankie Doodle or Frankie Doodle Dandy, sometimes known as Pretty Boy Frankie — does not subscribe to the philosophy of poet Dylan Thomas. He believes there is nothing wrong with going gentle into that good night. To that end, he ate some Ben & Jerry’s Stephen Colbert Americone Dream ice cream — even though he is not a political animal, he likes the caramel swirl and chunks of chocolate cone in the vanilla base — and then chilled out, his number 1 fan by his side, assuring him that even superstars can’t keep going forever but that he will always be beloved by his loyal followers.

He plans to continue his travels, just no longer in the public eye.

Love his Ben and Jerry’s choice – can’t help wondering how many flavors he needed to sample before deciding. What a wonderful sendoff, as his next adventure begins – whatever that is.

Darling Edie — Crying for you, oh, my dear, crying. I never met Frankie in person, but your posts and book projected his personality beautifully. Grateful for the gentle, loving finale.

Sending you hugs and love. When my boy Sherman took his last ride he enjoyed forbidden M & M’s and chocolate chip cookies.

All I can say is that I’ve been through this seven times now through 40 years of marriage. As I type, my number eight is snuggled by my side. Every one of them has taken a tiny piece of my heart as they depart but with that said, every one of them brought more joy then I could have imagined when they entered my life. I thank you for loving Frankie enough to realize that you had to let him go. It’s one of the most difficult decisions you will ever make. I have loved all the time I have spent with you two. I will carry you both in my heart today and always. Fly free, Frankie “D”…

Oh, Edie, my heart goes out to you. I know there are no words that can comfort you right now, so I’ll just say this much — Frankie will always love you and be with you in spirit. Go and enjoy the weekend with your friends; and don’t stifle tears or feel guilty if the tears don’t come. Frankie is at peace now, and he would want you to find peace as well. You are in my thoughts.

We know though your heart is breaking, you let a little sigh of relief before you let the tears take over. One day you’ll feel that tiny bit of relief again, and then it will grow until you feel it more often than you feel the tears. That’s when the healing of your heart will begin. We’re always here for you whenever you need. You can use our hearts whenever you need a breath. V <3 B <3 D <3
