Heads up!

Many of you will remember an event that Amy Burkert of GoPetFriendly.com and I co-hosted: The Pet Blogger Challenge. It’s hard to believe, but a year has passed, and we’re in the season for retrospectives again.

The Backstory

It all started when Amy posted a declaration of freedom from writing tyranny called Bullied by the Blog. I responded with my own not-so-originally-titled-but-heartfelt cry of sympathy and empathy, Also Bullied by My Blog.

We decided to put the little buggers in their place by examining our blogging practices and goals. We compiled a list of questions that we committed to answering and then invited the entire pet blogging community to participate.

We are gluttons for punishment It was a huge success so we decided to do it again.

A more leisurely pace

This year, we’re going to give you more time to think about your answers. Next Tuesday, December 20, we’ll be posting two sets of questions: One for bloggers who have never taken the challenge before and another for those who took it last year. All those who participate will take part in our  Blog Hop on January 10, 2012.

It’s a great opportunity to vent and to kvell —  look it up! — to gauge your progress, to vow to do better, to thank your readers, your mother….however you want to approach the questions. You’ll be comforted to see how many other bloggers are struggling with the same issues — and inspired by those who have resolved their obstacles in creative ways.

Will You Commit?

What do you say? Are you in? Grab the code on the sidebar here or on GoPetFriendly.com and post the badge if so; it’ll be incentive. If you decide not to participate at the last minute, Amy and I won’t send the blog police after you.

My guilt-free zone will be suspended for that period, however.

If you want to see what Amy has to say on the topic, check out her Pet Blogger Challenge, Round Two.

All should be perfectly reasonably clear, but please feel free to ask either of us questions along the way.

    1. Yes, I threatened to turn it over to you. but I suppose — since I haven’t experienced it — it’s like giving birth: You forget the pain and only remember the great result!

  1. Hey Edie, I’ve been following your blog on and off the last few months and love what you guys are doing! We’ve got our own blog that’s been up for the last two years about hiking with our dogs.

Can you give a little more info on how we “register” for this – is posting the badge on our site the only way? I’d love to know more…

    1. Yep, you just have to post the badge — and you don’t really even need to do that. Just answer the questions we post next week, then post your answers on Jan 10, and add your name to the Linky tool list which we will post on midnight EST that morning. Posting the badge just shows your intention!

Welcome — I’m so glad you want to join in.

  2. Looking forward to it. As a new Pet Blogger as of 2011 I can’t wait to get in this event.
ChazzTheDog would also like to add, Awooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.

  3. This sounds like a great thing, count me in. The timing is quite fortuitous for me too – I’ve just finished writing Day 10 my Christmas pet safety blog series entitled ‘The 12 Pet Hazards of Christmas’. Two more days to write and then the summary post. This series has proven quite the bully, I don’t know what I was thinking! But I do love getting this information out there for pet owners to know. Check it out – you can either reach my blog through my website (www.ThePreventiveVet.com), or you can go directly to http://www.ThePreventiveVet.Tumblr.com.

I’m looking forward to this and to hopefully meeting some of you all one of these days. Happy (and safe) holidays everyone.

    Jason

  4. I’m in, and very glad that I won’t be just getting off a 30 hour flight from Thailand this time around. Maybe I’ll actually be able to think clearly about my answers. Thanks for hosting!

  5. I’m in! The end of the year fell apart somewhat for my blog (a project deadline took priority) and I have been feeling SO GUILTY! I can’t wait for the new year to start and can’t wait for the challenge!

  6. We’re in!! Looking forward to meeting new bloggers like last year and also excited about rehashing all the things we swore we’d do in 2011 and failed to accomplish…er…I mean…we’re excited to start the year off fresh! 😉
