This is going to be quick, because explaining what today’s “Be the Change” challenge is all about is better left to BlogPaws, the organization where it all started. And also because I want others to know that even if they’re busy and broke — guilty on both counts! — they can still help.

First, there’s that widget you can see to the right of this post — even above Frankie’s video trailer. You can put it on your blog, too — I pulled the code from DogSpelledForward’s site — and urge people to give.

Done.

And then you can think about something you’ve done or are planning to do to help animals, even if you don’t have much money.

Me, I’m going to start by donating the swag I got at the BlogPaws conference — plus some I solicited directly from the companies — to a silent auction to benefit the Humane Society of Southern Arizona. In addition to the deluxe FURminator, pictured here, my grooming basket will include the FURminator deshedding solution and the Crikey Pawsitively Clean Foaming Carpet and Upholstery Cleaner.

Along, of course, with a copy of Am I Boring My Dog. I’m hoping that the person who bids for the gift basket will love the book and spread the word.

Who says you can’t do yourself good by doing good?

    1. Thanks — and easy! I think a lot of people are put off by the thought that giving has to be difficult. And entirely selfless…

  1. I used my BlogPaws coupon from Wellness to buy the food I donated today. Saved me $10. :o)

I think your donation ideas sound terrific. If you don’t need your schwag, pass it on.

Did you hear I thought the stuff in the tiny wax envelope was “tea”? Ha! It was catnip. I’m glad I asked before brewing.

    1. Excellent! And do consider me on board whatever project you end up organizing (don’t know if my comment came through this a.m.)

I missed the catnip/tea close call! Very funny.

  2. The silent auction on the shwag bag is a great idea. We cleaned out our garage today and donated crates, beds, toys, and food to our local shelter. Have a great weekend. Hope you can get the AC on your car fixed soon!

    1. Thanks, Rod. It sounds like you were busy doing your part for recycling dog goods too!

The a/c on my car got fixed. I’m a LOT poorer than I was at the beginning of the week. But cool. Have a great weekend too!

  3. Keeping things simple is usually the best way to get something done, with no trouble on follow through! And congrats on your fundraising – that’s a good chunk of change you’ve gathered on that widget!

    1. I wish I could take credit for anything besides posting the widget that records all of today’s generosity — but yes, it was an impressive amount.

    1. Of course, I’ll participate, Shauna –it’s a very cool idea and so easy to do (I love that part)! Frankie is an excellent ambassador for rescue, what with being a video star, not to mention the inspiration for a book and blog.
