The first of this pair of complementary kitty adoption videos, brought to my attention by the ever-alert Pamela of Something Wagging This Way Comes, comes from Animal Humane Society of Minnesota. The second was created by the Capital Area Humane Society of Ohio.

Who doesn’t want a kitty right now?

Ok, and maybe one of those real men…

  1. I love this series, Edie. And the Animal Humane Society of Minnesota video is as fab now as the first time I saw it. Isn’t the great the way they cast the voices for the different cats.

As for the second video–I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: If men had any idea how sexy many women find their nurturing side, shelters would be emptied out in a matter of weeks.

    Thanks for spreading the word.

    1. But would those men actually take care of the cats once they got the women? I suspect many of them would, once they allow themselves to think it’s okay to be tender with animals (I’m thinking about Micky Rourke and his chihuahuas).

Thanks again for calling that video to my attention. It’s a winner!

  2. Echoing Pamela – I’m always inspired by these videos and am sending this pair to my friend and director of Safe Harbor where over 250 cats (and dogs) reside waiting for homes and being very well cared for in the meantime. Minnesota AHS (my home state) took in one of my feral dogs, Chip, a couple years back; his brother, Monk, is still here; after a couple failed fosters from one of which he ran and was lost for 3 days, he is now a permanent resident of Silverwalk. Keep ’em coming! Some day soon I’ll have one of my own to share with you (oohh, new goal!).

    1. It would be super if you created a video, Roberta! I promise to share it as soon as you do.

In fact, if I can figure out the logistics, I’d like to have a contest for shelters and rescues that create videos celebrating their volunteers… I haven’t found many of those — I was contemplating a third series — and figure it’s a win-win; at minimum, volunteers would get thanked!

    1. Ha, the allergies are relevant but I suspect most kitties could hold their own against you, Hawk. They may be little, but they have those sharp, sharp claws. I’d bet you’d end up playing nicely together!

  3. Love the first one. So cute, such great voices.

On the second one, I know guys who love cats and take good care of them, and somehow this is saying they don’t. So, somehow for me, this video plants the opposite psychological idea that ‘real men’ don’t – not sure how you’d get around that, though, except to make the message less explicit, simply by showing the positive imagery they’ve shot, without the ‘real men’ tag line perhaps? or maybe it’s just me…

    1. Hey Diane,
I know what you’re saying, but I think there’s a stereotype about men and cats that the second video is working to counteract. I tend to think of “crazy cat ladies” rather than of brawny guys — or any guys — taking care of cats. It’s not true, but I do think some men think they’ll be considered wussy if they adopt cats (or small dogs).

  4. right, right, I get that – I just mean it’s the ‘don’t think of pink elephants’ psychology that doesn’t work – and how to change the tag line with the images so it doesn’t have that effect – or like I say – maybe that’s just the way it affects me – anyways. If it reaches one guy who adopts one kitty – oh. you know, how to make it work – do the ‘got milk?- type campaign – famous hunk actors with cats – Robert Redford , Brad Pitt types – now That would work – hey, not a baaaad idea – – –

    1. Ah, I see what you’re saying. Show, don’t tell… Well, maybe some movie will come along that features a feline-loving hero.

  5. I love both of these!

Interesting thoughts about men thinking they won’t be “manly” if they have a cat or a small dog. My dad always adopted Chihuahuas, and he’s definitely kind of a mountain man. I always love seeing a stereotypical “manly” guy with a cat or small dog.

  6. One of the reasons I agreed to go on a second date with my husband was because of his fuzzy little orange kitten. There is something about a man who loves a cat…

Every time I decide we definitely don’t need a second cat right now, I see something like this that makes me reconsider! Ugh! 😉

    1. That’s so sweet about your husband! And I guess you — and I and several others who commented, come to think of it — are proof that positive messaging works…

  7. How funny that you should play a video from AHS here in Minnesota. A few of my clients came from there. I have never seen that video. Isn’t that odd?
I could say why I’m a little less than impressed with it, but I’ll let the cuteness of the video stand on its own.

I did, however, like the Ohio one. Can I take man #2? 3? I like that they recognize that men are cat lovers too.

    Nice finds Edie!

    1. Of course I’m curious now…. If you don’t feel comfortable going public with it, feel free to email me 😉
