I like this blog to be fair and balanced, and I’ve been dissing Canada — well, specifically Ontario — for its pitbull ban. AJ, who guest-authored the post, pointed out in the comments that Winnipeg has a ban on bully breeds too.

So I’d like to prove that Winnipeg has powerful animal defenders, some with an awesome sense of humor. The following video was created for the Winnipeg Humane Society. Speaking of humor, I found this PSA on the site of Doggie Stylish, where Karen has created some extremely clever photo essays. My favorites so far are the Seven Deadly Sins and Seven Heavenly Virtues as illustrated by dogs.

More evidence of my great fairness and balance: This video is totally feline focused. Enjoy!

  1. Thank you, thank you, thank you. It’s raining outside. We have 4 feet of snow piled up everywhere you look. My neck is stiff from sitting at the computer for 2 days. Oh, and I have to head to work.

But I got a good guffaw from your video. This is my favorite one yet. I especially loved the “scratch and dent” models. I certainly hope it put some Winnipeg kitties into new homes.

    1. You’re welcome. Glad I could provide some kitty joy. I think my favorite part was the reference to the former males with the “snip and cut” gesture…

      1. Ah ha ha! I was just going to write that! They “got them *used to be* boy” cats – what a scream – and in the middle of the night I caterwalled, woke up the dog and probably the neighbors:)

  2. I had seen and shared this earlier but am going to check out your other suggestions. This is hilarious – “oops, no returns – sorry about that, got carried away.” I would love for our sanctuary to do something like this. HA.

    1. Yeah, the “no returns” was very clever. And you should definitely check out the photo essays; they’re a hoot.

  3. Thank you for saying something nice about my hometown! Winnipeg always gets such a bad rap, from its miserable winters (-14 C [6 F] today, it’s warm out!) to the B-52 mosquitoes all summer. But it’s home and I love it (even if I left 24 years ago…)

When I was about 12, I used to go to the Humane Society once a week just to play with the cats. It was quite a distance from where I lived, and my dad had to drive me. If The Spouse wasn’t so violently allergic, we’d probably have 3-5 cats running around the house. Research shows that a purring cat reduces high blood pressure. Go and get a cat today– you won’t regret it! 🙂

  4. I didn’t know Winnipag had a breed ban. Or if I did I had forgotten. It makes me a little glad I didn’t decide to move there after all. It was one of my choices.

Anyway, love the video! The creativity is impressive. 🙂
